Goal

  • Document climate impact of frequent removal of cattle deep litter.
  • Quantify methane and nitrous oxide emissions directly from deep litter in barns.
  • Develop Danish emission and reduction factors for use in national inventories.
  • Develop practical systems for litter application and removal at farm scale.


Plan

  • Measure barn emissions from deep litter under current and frequent removal practices.
  • Characterize manure and bedding composition over time to identify emission drivers.
  • Compile results in a database for developing and modelling emission factors.
  • Prepare guidelines for farmers balancing climate mitigation, animal welfare, and practical feasibility.
