Goal
- Develop an eco-efficient processing concept using green technologies
- Produce high-quality, sustainable microalgae-based ingredients rich in long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/eicosapentaenoic acid) and vitamin D3.
- Include downstream processing, in-line vitamin D3 biofortification, and assessing residual biomass utilization for innovative applications
Plan
- Establish a reliable process line for cultivating and processing Nannochloropsis oceanica.
- Implement UV treatment for in-line vitamin D3 biofortification during biomass production and post-extraction.
- Extract and characterize algae oil using supercritical CO2 (Sc-CO2) extraction.
- Assess market potential and prepare documentation for Novel Food approval.
- Collaborate with Danish microalgae producers for technology transfer and large-scale implementation
Expected results
- Production of vitamin D3-rich microalgae oil and protein-rich residual biomass.
- Development of scalable, eco-efficient processing technologies.
- Successful Novel Food approval for biofortified algae-based products.
