CHALLENGE

Limited data for managing carbon sequestration and nitrogen leaching

TECHNOLOGY

Satellite data and climate‑driven modelling for field‑level insights

POTENTIAL

Enables data‑driven decisions and compliance in sustainable agriculture

Goal

  • Build carbon sequestration and nitrogen leaching models by combining radar (Sentinel‑1) and optical (Sentinel‑2) satellite data with climate modelling, delivering detailed environmental risk metrics for agri‑finance, farm management, and the public sector.
  • Empower financiers, insurers and farmers with actionable data to support the green transition and compliance with new EU climate regulations.

Plan

  • Integrate multi-sensor data (Sentinel‑1 radar, Sentinel‑2 optical) with ground data and climate models to develop field‑specific carbon and nitrogen models.
  • Build and validate algorithms, using data‑fusion techniques and forward-looking climate modelling to predict soil carbon changes and nitrogen leaching.
  • Implement modules into AgroRisk platform and pilot with banks, insurers, farmers and public agencies; refine with feedback; prepare for commercial rollout across the EU.

Expected results

  • Validated carbon sequestration and nitrogen leaching models integrated into AgroRisk SaaS, providing actionable metrics for financing, insurance, farm management, and the public sector.
  • Supporting sustainable land management, reduced nitrogen runoff, and greenhouse gas reductions
  • Enabling improved risk pricing and compliance with new EU regulations.
