Resilient, on-site green production of agricultural urea
This project explores a new way of producing green urea directly on farms using wind power, CO2 capture, and modular container technology.

A new green pathway for nitrogen and fertilizer production
Urea is essential for both agriculture and fermentation, but it is produced in large fossil-based industrial plants with high energy consumption and significant CO2 emissions. This project investigates a modular, containerized system that can synthesize urea directly on a farm using wind power, membrane-based nitrogen separation, CO2 capture, and emerging electrochemical reactor technologies. The goal is to create a fully self-sufficient, local production loop with no external fuel or raw material inputs.
Closing the value chain with local, resilient and climate-neutral production
By producing urea only when there is wind and storing it as a ready-to-use fertilizer, the system functions as a power-to-X solution without the inefficiencies of large-scale energy storage. It eliminates transport, reduces emissions, and provides farmers with stable, independent supply of green fertilizer. The concept has the potential to transform the current centralized value chain into a decentralized, climate-neutral model that strengthens both environmental performance and on-farm resilience.
