Insetting Agroforestry
Many companies face challenges in meeting their ambitious sustainability goals. This project aims to develop a scalable insetting framework and carbon methodology specifically designed to tackle the challenge of Scope 3 emissions, which often represent the largest share of a company’s carbon footprint.

The challenge with scope 3 emissions
Scope 3 emissions stem from activities outside the direct control of the reporting organization but significantly impact its overall carbon footprint. In the coffee sector, 81.5% of emissions occur at the farm level, before products even reach the company. Although many companies have set Science Based Targets, only 18% are currently on track to meet them.
In this project, GrowGrounds ApS and Green Alchemy ApS are partnering to develop an insetting framework and carbon methodology tailored to syntropic agroforestry. This approach aims to enable credible Scope 3 emission reductions within agricultural supply chains.
Insetting agroforestry as a solution
Syntropic agroforestry enables the capture of both above-ground and soil organic carbon, while simultaneously producing target crops. A proof-of-concept model and case study in Brazil will demonstrate how coffee cooperatives can implement syntropic systems to enhance yields, resilience, biodiversity, and reduce the environmental footprint of coffee production.
The ultimate goal of this project is to develop a scalable framework that supports more companies in achieving their sustainability targets.
