WHITEPAPER
Foundations for an increasingly plant-based future
How can Denmark help inspire a stronger European transition towards more plant-rich diets and plant-based food systems?
The white paper explores how Denmark has developed a collaborative and innovation-driven ecosystem for plant-based foods and how these experiences may help shape future European initiatives and policy frameworks.
The report examines:
- Denmark’s development of the world’s first national action plan for plant-based foods
- how public-private partnerships drive innovation across the food value chain
- the strengths, challenges, and lessons learned from the Danish approach
- how Danish experiences can help inform future European action on sustainable and plant-rich food systems.
Download the white paper to explore how collaboration, innovation, and long-term investment can help shape a more sustainable and increasingly plant-based future for Europe.
Structured across four main chapters, the white paper takes readers through the Danish and European policy landscape, Denmark’s plant-based innovation infrastructure, practical lessons from industry and stakeholders, and strategic recommendations for future European collaboration and governance.
The analysis is based on desk research, stakeholder interviews, and project-level mapping of Danish plant-based initiatives and collaborations.
This white paper is part of the Novo Nordisk–funded Fast Forward Partnership and has been prepared by the Danish Technological Institute on behalf of the partnership: Plant2Food, Plantefonden, the Danish Agricultural Agency (GUDP), and AgriFoodTure.
Since the publication of the report, the AgriFoodTure mission partnership has continued under the name Food & Bio Cluster Denmark as part of a strengthened joint effort to accelerate innovation and the green transition within food and bioresources.
