Turning sidestreams into valuable resources holds significant potential, but moving from promising solutions to scalable implementation remains a challenge. At this Mission Exchange, we bring projects and organisations together to explore what has already been demonstrated, where barriers remain, and where collaboration can help accelerate the next steps towards implementation.
How do we move promising circular solutions from technical potential to implementation and scale?
Making better use of sidestreams can create new value from existing biological resources, but scaling solutions requires more than technical feasibility. Quality and volume, regulation and food safety, logistics and economics can all influence whether a solution moves forward. These are also challenges highlighted in Food & Bio Cluster Denmark’s work on circular use of biological resources.
Through cases and perspectives from the project, InterFlow, we will explore nutrient recovery and resource utilisation, the role of sensors, digitalisation and traceability, and opportunities for further research and innovation.
The afternoon workshop turns these perspectives into dialogue. Participants will identify shared barriers, complementary capabilities and opportunities to collaborate across projects and organisations. The aim is not simply to showcase individual solutions, but to find common ground: Where have we already reduced uncertainty? What still stands in the way of implementation? And where could joining forces help promising solutions progress towards scale?
By joining the Mission Exchange, you will:
- Gain insight into approaches to sidestream utilisation, digitalisation and traceability
- Explore barriers between technical potential and scalable implementation
- Exchange experiences with people working on related challenges across projects and organisations
- Identify complementary capabilities and potential areas for collaboration
- Help define opportunities for joint action and follow-up
Preliminary programme
10:00–10:30 | Arrival and breakfast
Participants arrive, have breakfast and meet informally across projects and organisations.
10:30–10:45 | Welcome to Mission Exchange: From Potential to Scale
Food & Bio Cluster Denmark introduces the purpose of the day and its focus on moving innovations in circularity and sidestream utilisation towards implementation and scale.
10:45–11:05 | InterFlow: Turning sidestreams into valuable resources
Maripure
Experiences and learnings from InterFlow, including nutrient recovery, resource utilisation and challenges related to implementation and scaling.
11:05–11:25 | Digitalisation and sensors for biofood production
FORCE Technology
The role of monitoring, digitalisation and traceability in enabling more efficient and scalable circular production systems.
11:25–11:40 | Connecting research and innovation opportunities
DTU
Related research, technologies and potential project areas that could contribute to advancing circularity and sidestream utilisation.
11:40–12:25 | Sightseeing walk and informal exchange
Explore the surroundings while continuing conversations across projects and organisations.
12:25–13:00 | Lunch and informal networking 13:00–13:55 | Mission Exchange Workshop: Finding the common ground
Facilitated by Food & Bio Cluster Denmark
In smaller groups, participants will identify common challenges, complementary capabilities and opportunities for collaboration. Discussions will address regulatory barriers, digitalisation, traceability and the balance between technical feasibility, economic viability and sustainability.
13:55–14:00 | Closing remarks and next steps
Food & Bio Cluster Denmark outlines how insights and opportunities identified during the workshop will be taken forward.
