The objective of meeting is to provide an overview of the challenges and possibilities when refined sugar is replaced by bio-streams based growth media for cell cultured food.
Program
12:00. Lunch (light/grab sandwich). Networking - informal.
13:00. Welcome /Bjarke Jensen, GEA
- Short presentation of participants
- Setting the scene for the meeting / Lasse Solheim, ProteinFrontiers
13.20. Handling and processing biostreams - the journey from feed (livestock) to growth media
/ Kristian Knage-Drangsfeldt, Vestjylland Andel
- Sourcing biostreams and agricultural crops - cases
- Processing and optimizing feed (pig/cattle -> microbes)
- Feed stock fermentation - anticipated processing, optimization and workflow
13.50. Industrial scale upcycling of biostreams to become growth media (precision fermentation) - technology perspective / Bjarke Jensen and colleagues, GEA
- Strategy from CAPEX to OPEX (outsourcing upstream production of growth media preparation at small scale produduction
- Handling, storage, logistics - solid/fluid
- Technology for pretreatment of biostreams - physical and chemical properties of a growth media to fit fermentation equipment
- Maintain food quality of biostreams - contamination/sterilization
- Removing water from biostreams - upstream/downstream
- Cascade use of fermentation broth/biostream. Case: Upcycling of brewers spent gain
- Challenges of recovery with rough materials (secure low cost downstream by design upstream)
14.30. Break + refreshment
15.00. Site visit GEA Test Center - equipment
16.00. Reflections (challenges and potentials) moving from refined raw materials to biostream based complex media / Susanne Grøn , career background industrial scale precision fermentation
16.45. Discussion - wrap up
17.00. The End. Informal networking + refreshment
THERE MAY BE CHANGES /ONGOING UPDATES TO TODAY'S PROGRAM
The event is organised in collaboration with ProteinFrontiers, "Network - Feed stock industry for cell cultured food production", Food & Bio Cluster Denmark and GEA Danmark.
Food & Bio Cluster Denmark operates a number of subject-specific networks whose purpose is to drive knowledge sharing and potential collaborations on innovation.
To participate in our network groups, you must be a member of Food & Bio Cluster Denmark. If you are not a member yet, you are welcome to attend a single meeting to see if the network is for you. Hear more about your options from Kersti Haugan, kha@foodbiocluster.dk
